The Story of Jasper’s Jewels

1. At the mouth of Fulton Canyon in the town of Biggs Junction, Oregon, there is a jasper quarry. One could comfortably say that this would be the birthplace of Jasper the cat. Jasper’s a rarish kind of rock and a fairly small cat. Don’t let his size fool you though, cause he’s a tough customer although he has a soft spot for shiny stones. Now as to just how big Jasper is—well he’s real Biggs. He measures just over 4" long from his nose to his tail and is over 1" tall except when he’s standing on his hind legs when he’s about 2 inches.

2. Somewhere along the line Jasper claimed he had to have 4 blocks of stone that he likes to stand on, lie down on sit up on climb down off. Because it made him feel more comfortable being around his own kind, two of his blocks are made of other kinds of American picture jasper. Then because he once knew a Russian Blue cat, he got a block of Siberian Nephrite Jade and another block of Russian Lapis Lazuli. It made him feel kind of rich to know that his lapis came from the scraps of a very expensive Jacuzzi tub. Then came his toys.

3. There’s a piece of clear quartz, a rock crystal with a flower in it for him to smell and then there’s a piece of topaz very, very slightly bluish. He also has two pieces of amethyst and a piece of Oroverde citrine. He likes to hold these when he can because Jasper is a very acquisitive, but very cool cat.
